Pollution Unit Plan

 

Goal

The goal of this unit plan is to educate students on the topic of pollution and waste. Students will be able to identify the various types of pollution, ways of preventing pollution and excess waste, and will have the opportunity to educate others on the issues covering the topic.

Connecticut Science Content Standards

3.4 Earth materials provide resources for all living things, but the resources are limited and should be conserved. - Decisions made by individuals can impact the global supply of many resources.

B7: Describe how earth materials can be conserved by reducing the quantities used, and by reusing and recycling materials rather than discarding them.

Standard 1 - Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Students:

            1b. create original works as a means of personal or group expression.

Standard 2 - Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others. Students:

            2a. interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media.

2. Unit Outcomes

Students will be able to identify the various types of pollution, ways of preventing pollution and excess waste, and will have the opportunity to educate others on the issues covering the topic.

3. Timeline

The unit should last approximately one month.

4. Prior Knowledge

The unit will take place at the beginning of the school year. Students will have some prior knowledge of the topic based on personal experiences and common knowledge.
